WORTH A LOOK
THE RACK (1956)
One of the rare '50s films to deal with the Korean War showcases one of Newman's least seen and most worthwhile early performances. As a POW who is subjected to years of psychological torture and then returns home only to face a trial for collaborating with the enemy, the actor, still baby-faced, is at his most open and wounded; letting every emotion play across his features, he digs deep, even when the Psych-101-with-a-sledgehammer script (a low-budget MGM adaptation of a United States Steel Hour courtroom playlet by Rod Serling) doesn't.
