LIPSTICK JUNGLE
NEW · Premieres Feb. 7
10:00-11:00 PM (NBC)
You've heard about ABC's new Sex and the City-esque series Cashmere Mafia? Now prepare for déjà vu all over again as NBC rolls out its own version of cosmopolitan women dishing over cosmos. Based on the titular novel by SATC author Candace Bushnell, Lipstick Jungle takes viewers into the world of three high-profile New York women: Wendy (Brooke Shields), a movie studio executive; Nico (Kim Raver), editor in chief of Bonfire, a Vanity Fair-esque magazine; and Victory (Lindsay Price), a fashion designer. Still, Bushnell stresses that viewers will be privy to a world different from that of Carrie Bradshaw and Co. ''It's a new paradigm of the career woman,'' says the author, who's also an executive producer on Lipstick. ''It's about women supporting each other in their successes and their issues.''
The trio of leading ladies seem excited about inhabiting this urban Jungle. ''It feels like a Woody Allen comedy,'' says Price (best known as Beverly Hills, 90210's Janet). Laughs are great, but as every woman knows, it's really all about the heels. ''The more popular we get, I think we'll be given more stuff,'' jokes Shields about the show's wardrobe. ''The better the ratings, the better the shoe!'' Tim Stack
