Even without Fish (Abe Vigoda, who left the show in 1977), this New York cop comedy remained a perennial Emmy nominee. In this, its fifth season, Capt. Barney Miller (Hal Linden) continued to bring the funny while Det. Nick Yemana (Jack Soo) brought some tears — Soo passed away in January 1979, and was honored with a season-ending clip show.
