The 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore landed Ellen Burstyn an Oscar, and the TV adaptation — starring Linda Lavin as the singer whose car and dreams break down in Phoenix and leave her waitressing at Mel's Diner — finally nabbed its star an Emmy nod in this, its third season. (Lavin didn’t win. To quote Flo, ''Kiss my grits.'')
