When Giamatti was overlooked by the Academy for his portrayal of Harvey Pekar in American Splendor, many considered that the most egregious Oscar snub of 2004. So when he was bypassed AGAIN one year later for his performance as the world's most lovable misanthrope (Miles in Sideways), a slump-shouldered sad sack afraid of pursuing life outside the bottle, it felt like salt in a fresh wound.
