Jean-Michel Basquiat was a homeless graffiti artist who rocketed to the stratosphere of the rarified NYC art world, one of the first black artists to do so. Jeffrey Wright, in a soft-spoken yet galvanizing performance, invites us into Basquiat's world with an almost alien tenderness, pulling us through his life until his fatal heroin overdose.
