Why we're excited: Author Scott Smith (A Simple Plan) scripted this adaptation of his spine-chilling 2006 best-seller, which follows a group of ill-fated tourists dogged by a supernatural evil that lives among Mayan ruins. The trailer looks like a mix between the skin-crawling creepiness of Bug (2007) and the south-of-the-border horror vibe of Turistas (2006), but Ruins could trump them both if the book's relentless frights don't get lost in translation on the way to the big screen.
