MURDER SHE WROTE
Based on the book The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy, this Brian de Palma-helmed flick details the unsolved murder of a young wannabe starlet, Elizabeth Short, that shocked Hollywood in the late '40s. Johansson plays Kay Lake, a woman who gets caught in a love triangle between two of the detectives investigating Short's death. The Black Dahlia (2006) was nominated for an Academy Award for cinematography, but lost to Pan's Labyrinth. —Adrienne Day
