2007: AMY WINEHOUSE
Before her personal life began overshadowing her music, Amy Winehouse was one of the most buzzed-about performers ever to appear at South by Southwest. After critical and commercial success in her native U.K. with debut album Frank, released there in late 2003, Winehouse teamed up with producer Mark Ronson for her follow-up and U.S. debut, Back to Black, released in March 2007. That same month, Winehouse played a whopping six shows to packed crowds at SXSW. Despite her well-documented personal difficulties since then, the beehive'd chanteuse won five awards at this year's Grammys, and is rumored to be heading back into the studio with Ronson later this year.
