THE SPIRIT (2008)
Writer-director Frank Miller's version of Will Eisner's classic crime-fighting yarn feels like busyness for busyness' sake. It tosses Eisner's noir lyricism out in favor of Sin City-style bombast and as many silly costume changes for Samuel L. Jackson as possible. Marc Bernardin
