The Battlestar Galactica — a kind of battleship/aircraft carrier in space — was the only major military vehicle ultimately to survive the Cylon massacre. An old ship set to become a museum before the attack, it protects the dozens of remaining civilian ships from attack by the Cylons. The entire fleet is heading for the fabled planet of Earth, where the 13th human colony was said to have settled far from the other 12 colonial planets. Their hope is to reach the planet and settle it, but the Cylons have remained in dogged pursuit for practically the entire journey, and they haven't given any indication that they'll just give up the hunt if humanity reaches Earth first.
