GERMAN FRIED MOVIE (1991)
Much-maligned German auteur Uwe Boll kicked off his directing career with this zero-budgeted collection of sketches, which attempts to make mock of sitcoms, religion, and abortion (always a hilarity magnet), among other subjects. Inspired by John Landis' far superior 1977 laughfest Kentucky Fried Movie, the film made its money back and more in Boll's native country but is unlikely to make too many U.S. viewers smile. Nevertheless GFM is the last time Boll's career could be described as, in any way, ''promising.''
