SLIDE TO THE BOTTOM For some fans, the campy ABC series Batman, starring Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin (shown here sliding down the Batpoles into the Batcave), was the nadir of the superheroes' career. For others, however, the 1966-68 series, with its celebrity guest villains, its hilariously deadpan performances by West and Ward, and its deliberately cartoonish visuals remember those ''POW!'' ''THWACK'' graphics that would appear whenever the Dynamic Duo were beating up bad guys? was the most fun of all Batman incarnations. (West and Ward also brought their characters to the big screen in the 1966 Batman movie, where they fight a triumvirate of villains the Joker, Penguin, and Catwoman as well as an obviously rubber shark that threatens to chow down on Batman's leg until he sprays it with Bat-Shark Repellent.)
