GOTHAM GUY The success of the Tim Burton movies led to the creation of Batman: The Animated Series (1992-95), which, though it was made for kids, earned an adult fan base as well (not to mention a 1993 Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program). Like the movies, it maintained a grim tone and a sleek, Art Deco look for Gotham City. The Fox show featured Batman (voiced by Kevin Conroy) fighting familiar villains (like the Joker, left, voiced maniacally by Mark Hamill, of all people). A new character, Joker associate Harley Quinn (right), was so popular that she was added to the comics.
