DEMOLITION MAN (1993)
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), a 20th-century cop forced into suspended animation, gets thawed out into a pacifist future to fight an ultra-violent criminal with bad hair (Wesley Snipes).
WHY IT DOESN'T WORK: There's something cool about the guy who destroys everything around him, emotionally and physically, and the powers that be, recognizing a need for that type of blunt instrument, put him on ice to break in case of emergency. That right there is cooler than this whole movie, which spends way too much time with the fish-out-of-waterness and Spartan's tepid romance with a future cop played by Sandra Bullock.
