59. L.A. CONFIDENTIAL (1997)
A dark and dank vision of Los Angeles, full of sleaze-hungry tabloid reporters, seedy porn barons who have hookers cut to look like movie stars, cops on the take, and D.A.s all too eager to look the other way. But when three decent police officers — an ambitious boy scout (Guy Pearce), a hot-headed bruiser (Russell Crowe), and a cynic too comfortable with the glow of Hollywood (Kevin Spacey) — investigate a massacre at a local diner, they barely flinch from taking on the whole crummy system. The result is pure noir heaven.
