FRAILTY (2002)
Typically the good guy, McConaughey took a convincing walk on the dark side as Fenton Meeks, a mysterious man who shows up in the office of FBI agent Wesley Doyle (Powers Boothe) claiming to know the identity of the God's Hand serial killer. He slowly unravels a gruesome and shocking tale of how, as kids, he and his younger brother were forced by their father (Bill Paxton), who claimed to be receiving messages from God, to help slay a number of ''demons.'' Dark and cold-blooded may not pay as well as sunny and smiley, but here the actor proves he has killer instincts.
Texas drawl? Yes. Great (spooky as hell) line: ''Everything's just fine.... God's will has been served.''
