THE BEST
SOUTH PARK: BIGGER, LONGER & UNCUT (1999)
There have been many comedy highs (and human lows) for the boys of that Colorado town since their debut on Comedy Central in 1997, but this R-rated musical which earned an Oscar nod for Best Original Song is damn near flawless. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone channel their battles with the MPAA, critics who (falsely) consider their humor aimlessly crude, and Canada, into the year's best political satire. Plus, we get a song of tap-dancing farts!
WHAT EW SAID: ''The funniest, most risk-taking, most incisive movie of the summer.... If I dock the movie half a grade, it's only because, in spite of everything, I still believe in the possibility of other liberating, less poo-poo-driven comedies that don't star characters made of construction paper.''
