Mel Gibson returns to acting in the 2009 thriller Edge of Darkness, based on a BBC miniseries. In his first lead role since 2002's Signs, the Aussie plays a cop investigating his daughter's death. Here, he pays a visit to her boyfriend (Shawn Roberts). ''I'm sure he was nervous — he's been behind the camera for years,'' says director Martin Campbell. ''But he didn't show it.''
