THE SPIRIT

Comics legend Miller (300), who codirected Sin City, makes his solo
debut with this adaptation of Will Eisner's 1940s comic strip about a
police officer who, after getting shot and killed, comes back to
life — with an agenda. ''The Spirit is out for justice,'' says Macht (The
Good Shepherd), who plays the titular avenger. ''He's trying to clean up
the city and find his killers.'' Miller turned the film down at first.
''But three and a half seconds later I said, 'Hold on, nobody else gets
to touch it,''' he says. ''It's a comic strip that's had a tremendous
effect on my own work.'' (Hits theaters Dec. 25, 2008)
At Comic-Con: Miller and company will screen a special trailer, plus
several scenes.
