JOHNNY CARSON
The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1992)

His penultimate show featured the reliably manic Robin Williams and the just-this-side-of-schmaltzy Bette Midler, who serenaded Johnny with ''One for My Baby (And One More for the Road),'' bringing tears to his eyes. But no stars were out for his final Tonight after 30 years of putting America to bed; he simply staged a humble evening of clips before a studio audience of family and friends. It ended with Johnny on a stool, a hitch in his voice as he said, ''I bid you a very heartfelt good night.''
