Happy Trails! 34 Great Pop Culture Cowboys and Cowgals

In honor of the finale of ''Toughest Cowboy,'' we tip our ten-gallon hats to our tobacco-chewin', guns-blazin', boot-scootin', cattle-drivin' favorites, including John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and Clint Eastwood

CLAYTON MOORE
The Lone Ranger (1949-57)

The Lone Ranger rode onto the small screen in 1949 positioned primarily as a children's program. As the story goes, the titular character was one of six Texas Rangers who were ambushed by a group of bandits. The only one to survive — hence, the Lone Ranger — donned a mask to hide his identity from the assailants and set out to bring them to justice with the help of friend Tonto and the William Tell Overture.
