Commander in Chief (2005-2006)
Richard ''Dickie'' McDonald
The word Gosselaar uses to describe this ABC White House drama: ''disaster.'' While it earned star Geena Davis a Golden Globe for playing the first female president, it also scored plenty of play in EW for its spectacular behind-the-scenes drama. When Steven Bochco replaced creator Rod Lurie as show runner during the first (and only) season, he brought on Gosselaar with whom he'd just reteamed on the FX Iraq War drama Over There to play a political adviser. After an initial ratings spike, the numbers fell again. ''If your ratings are sliding, it affects the work,'' Gosselaar says. ''It's basically someone telling you that your work is so-so. Everyone feels it. Every week, you feel like you're on a sinking ship.'' Bochco bowed out; Gosselaar, under contract, went down with it.
