HOW THEY DID IT The camp's headstrong prisoners dig three different tunnels before escaping through one that leads to a forest. Of course, most were recaptured, and 50 were shot dead, but you can't deny that their escape was impressive (Hilts' motorcycle jump over that fence totally qualifies) as it was heroic — especially since the film is based on a true story.
