THE GREAT ESCAPE (1963)
THE ESCAPEES Captain Virgil ''the Cooler King'' Hilts (Steve McQueen) and dozens of other POWs
FLED FROM A seemingly inescapable WWII POW camp
HOW THEY DID IT The camp's headstrong prisoners dig three different tunnels before escaping through one that leads to a forest. Of course, most were recaptured, and 50 were shot dead, but you can't deny that their escape was impressive (Hilts' motorcycle jump over that fence totally qualifies) as it was heroic especially since the film is based on a true story.
