THE ESCAPEE American Billy Hayes (Brad Davis)
FLED FROM A 30-year prison sentence in Istanbul
HOW HE DID IT At first sentenced to serve a short term for drug possession, Hayes is ordered by the Turkish High Court to serve 30 years in a prison that inflicts extreme mental and physical torture on its prisoners. But only one year later, he escapes when prison guards fall for the oldest trick in the book after Hayes kills a warden he slides into an officer's uniform, and simply walks out the front door.
