BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA, NOMINEE #1
Mary McDonnell, Battlestar Galactica
''We constantly hear that there are no good roles for women, especially women over a certain age. Yet on Battlestar Galactica, Mary McDonnell's President Laura Roslin is in power, flawed but not submissive, an equal to her male counterparts, and runs the whole gamut of emotions rage, fear, joy, uncertainty, etc. Throw in a cancer storyline (and the occasional execution by airlock) and you've got an amazing character and an amazing performance.''
