IN THE U.S.: The Office (2005-present)
IN THE U.K.: The Office (2001-2003)
WHAT'S THE SAME: A clueless, immature, and relationship-challenged paper company middle manager (Ricky Gervais in the original, Steve Carell in the remake) inadvertently tortures his workers, including a star-crossed couple, an obsequious underling, and a temp.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT: With over 60 episodes to the U.K. Office's 14, the U.S. version has had time to let that star-crossed couple get engaged and the temp briefly rise to VP (the British show shelved the character after season 1). Yet they still haven't canned the bad boss, which happened in the British show by episode 11.
