CHARLIE CHAPLIN
LARRY CHARLES SAYS: ''There's no comedy in any modern medium that's not shaped by him. His most revolutionary act, really, was creating film comedy. There's nobody who predates him who had anything like the same impact, to this day. He was very anti-establishment as the Little Tramp. He also made Monsieur Verdoux, one of the first really dark black comedies, and The Great Dictator. He paid a price for it in that America turned on him. He was ostracized for his views and was forced to leave the country. What could be more subversive than that?''
