TRL LAUNCHES
On Sept. 14, 1998, MTV merges two of its fledgling programs, MTV Live and Total Request, into — duh — Total Request Live, which would later come to be known as simply TRL. Oddly enough, the show's teen-pop staples weren't the first guests — instead, it was creepster Marilyn Manson.
