10. TROPIC THUNDER
Ben Stiller loves that tetchy place where humor veers off from the comfort of laugh-out-loud comedy and heads for the wilds of less cuddly satire. The director/co-writer/star's knowing, balls-out send-up of ripe action-movie-making emphasizes the absurdities of Hollywood privilege. While joining an ensemble cast of movie biggies (none more dazzling than Robert Downey Jr., or more unexpected than Tom Cruise), Stiller the director also retains an affectionate compassion for the whole biz of showbiz.
