METHOD MAN Writer-director John Patrick Shanley recalls the actor often holed up by himself until it was time to shoot. Costar Meryl Streep ''didn't know what the hell he was gonna do because he was in his room, smoking, looking out the window, looking miserable,'' says Shanley.
