Long before American Idol there was Say What? Karaoke, a showcase of amateur pop aficionados who performed awesomely bad songs. And there to egg them on was Holmes, an unassuming host who was like the friendly next-door neighbor kind enough to listen. Other than his occasional cameos on Reno 911!, hosting a couple game shows, a recurring gig co-hosting FX's DVD on TV programming, and a special on Bravo, the 38-year-old Holmes is living a low-key life with his dog, Junior, and his boyfriend in Studio City, CA. One thing he'll never forget: lip-locking with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong on New Year's Eve. ''It was with tongue!'' he exclaims.
