Ben Affleck (as Best Director) for Argo

''The Affleck snub is the [worst]. He MAKES a Best Picture Nominee. He has actors getting nominated. His picture gets screenplay recognition. And HE himself who directed the Oscar worthy picture doesn't get nominated. Reeks of the establishment snubbing him.... But this one hurts more because Affleck's movies have been great. How do you have a picture get 7 nominations, and NO directing nominee. Stupid!'' —Stacey

''It seems Hollywood is STILL not finished punishing Ben Affleck for Gigli. What does the guy have to do?! This IS the snub of the 2013 Oscars. Argo was tightly paced, thrilling, and incredibly polished. (sigh) I was really rooting for you, Ben. Better luck next time?'' —empo

''There's no excuse for the Affleck snub. The movie was mainstream, critically-acclaimed and did well at the box office. There was so much talk in the press about how he was finally being taken seriously as a director. He's been nominated by the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and the Director's Guild. I demand a recount, Academy. Seriously, what happened?'' —Mary H

''The Ben Affleck snub is just horrible. Not many people can take a well-known incident from 30 years ago and make it play out like an 'in-the-moment, edge-of-your-seat' thriller.'' —KaulyJo

''Argo was a great movie BECAUSE of how it was directed. This is one of the BIGGEST snubs ever in Oscar history. It makes no sense. It delegitimizes the whole thing even further.....'' —Canadian

''If one goes to the RottenTomatoes site and looks up Ben Affleck's 3 films, they would see a 94% for both Gone Baby Gone and The Town and 96% for this year's Argo. That's not just good, that's crazy good. I don't think any other director can lay claim to such praise in the last 6 years. I am just beyond words disgusted this morning with the Academy. As I said in another thread, they are a failed institution. Ben Affleck to the Academy: 'Argo f--- Yourself.''' —ModSquad
