Howard Berger, Peter Montagna, and Martin Samuel Oscar History:
Special make-up effects artist Howard Berger won an Oscar for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
; this is the first Oscar nomination for special make-up effects artist Peter Montagna. Hair department head Martin Samuel has two previous Oscar nominations: for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
(2004) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
(2008). What Berger said:
''The big thing is, it's not a likeness makeup, it's a portrait makeup. If the studio said, 'We want an exact copy of Hitchcock on Anthony Hopkins,' I would [have said], 'That can't happen.' I was doing a makeup on one of the world's most well-known actors, Anthony Hopkins, as one of the world's most known directors, Alfred Hitchcock.'' (Read more here.
