Locklear's miniskirt-clad hellion was a dominating force in the bedroom and the boardroom, using threats, schemes, and an arsenal of cruel barbs to rule D&D Advertising — and pump ratings life into Fox's struggling soap opera. While half the fun of Melrose 1.0 was watching Amanda outwit, outlast, and outplay her rivals, there was always a special joy in watching her defeat and demoralize Courtney Thorne-Smith's good girl Allison Parker, dismissing her rehab stint as a trip to ''pity-me pond'' and often choosing to spare her hapless underling's job for the sole purpose of tormenting her. One prime Amanda-on-Allison zinger: ''Don't bother quitting. With the report I can put in your personnel file, you wouldn't get a job bagging groceries.'' —Michael Slezak
