Merlin Olsen, The Undefeated
Long before he became TV's Father Murphy, Olsen was recruited for The Undefeated (1969) because the filmmakers needed someone to make John Wayne look small. The gentle-looking giant — Olsen was 6'5'', 270 pounds — played Little George, a blacksmith, but he and Wayne spent most of their down time on the set playing chess. It's unclear whether they worked on their lines at the same time. — Jeff Labrecque
