Shedding pounds (and his past image as ABC's affable ''Commish''), Chiklis got lean and mean to take on the role of Detective Vic Mackey, a crooked cop who steals coke from dealers for his own profit, then goes home to lovingly care for his autistic son. Any non-HBO show that dares to reflect reality through its use of violence, racial epithets, and profanity had better feature a fearless actor. Chiklis delivers.
