Accepting his Best Actor in a Comedy Series victory for NBC's The Office, Steve Carell read a thank-you list he said was written by his wife, another former Daily Show correspondent, Nancy Walls. That would explain why the list included four different thank-yous to Walls, including one expression of gratitude to ''Nancy, my precious wife, who put her career on hold in support of mine, and who sometimes wishes I would let her know when I'm going to be home late so she can schedule her own life, which is no less important than mine.'' In Hollywood, that's what you call a laugh line.
