''Incredible Hulk'' TV show, 1970s
GREEN AND BARE IT Sure, Spidey started the Marvel-movie craze, but the Hulk was a mass-media celeb first. ''The Incredible Hulk'' TV series debuted on CBS in 1978 (after two TV movies the year before), and it quickly became a kid-friendly smash in a 9 p.m. Friday slot. The late Bill Bixby played Dr. David Banner (the network supposedly considered the name ''Bruce'' effeminate), while the Hulk was portrayed by green-paint-assisted, bewigged bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno. The show inspired other Marvel-based shows, including a dreadful attempt at Spider-Man. They all flopped. Next Item in this Gallery
