HER CHARACTER Betty Ross, who dumps fellow scientist Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) because he keeps his emotions bottled up. (As the Hulk, of course, he can't keep them bottled tightly enough.) She's also the daughter of a Hulk antagonist, the army's General Ross (Sam Elliott).
HER QUALIFICATIONS With her fearless performance in 2000's ''Requiem for a Dream'' and her 2001 Oscar for ''A Beautiful Mind,'' Connelly showed a penchant for handling emotionally troubled men. Plus, she's spent 20 years acting opposite well-documented rage-aholics, including Russell Crowe, Robert De Niro, and James Woods.
FUN FACT Before her green-tinged CGI costar was added to the film in post-production, Connelly frequently had to act opposite a cardboard Hulk head on a stick, which the crew dubbed Elvis.
WHAT'S NEXT Delivery of her second son, due in August (hubby is her ''Beautiful Mind'' costar Paul Bettany). She stars in another Oscar-baiting drama, ''House of Sand and Fog,'' due this fall.
