SECOND DOWN Reynolds handed off his '74 QB role to Sandler and settled into the coach's role for the '05 Yard

Adam Sandler graduates from waterboy to quarterback in The Longest Yard, a remake of the 1974 Burt Reynolds film about a brutal football game between prison inmates and guards. In a tip of the helmet to the original, the 2005 version casts Reynolds as the incarcerated coach who whips Sandler's jailed pro and his misfit crew into shape. Also working up a sweat is Nelly, in his first major movie role, and Chris Rock, in his first screen appearance alongside his former Saturday Night Live castmate Sandler. ''This is the funniest movie I've ever done,'' says Rock. Let's hope so, because we've seen Down to Earth and Bad Company, so that's not saying much.
