Me Against the Media

Following Britney Spears' online rant last week about ''false tabloids'' running unflattering stories about her and husband Kevin Federline, the singer is putting forward her own video version of the couple's relationship. Variety reports that UPN has picked up the six episodes of couple's Nick-and-Jessica-style reality show, consisting of footage they shot themselves last year of their courtship and wedding. The show doesn't have a name yet, but Federline tells Variety, ''It is a documentation of love.''

''From the day that Kevin and I met, there have been constant rumors and inaccurate speculation about our lives together,'' Spears told Variety. ''I feel that last year the tabloids ran my life and I am really excited about showing my fans what really happened rather than all the stories, which have been misconstrued by journalists in the past. As I mentioned before, I am now going to be expressing my personal life through art.'' (Got that? Self-produced reality shows are now ''art.'')

UPN Entertainment President Dawn Ostroff told Variety the Federlines' series would be compelling ''even if it were a fictitious story,'' adding, ''The fact that it's about one of the biggest stars out there makes it all the more fascinating.'' While she acknowledged that the show would allow Spears and Federline the opportunity to ''tell their love story their way,'' she insisted the series wouldn't just be flattering counter-spin. ''I don't think there's anything sugar coated about this,'' Ostroff said, citing the footage she'd seen. ''It's pretty raw and pretty real. I don't think [viewers] have ever been exposed to people being so honest and open about their lives.''

Of course, that footage has yet to be edited into the six proposed episodes (five half-hours and an hour-long wedding finale). UPN hopes to premiere the show before the TV season ends in May.
