Former boy band member Nick Jonas will take the stage as the host of Nickelodeon’s 2015 Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday night, but he remembers enjoying the show as kid himself not too long ago.

“Jack Black was always the perfect host,” Jonas tells EW.

Now that he’s running the show, Jonas can think of a category he’d like to add to the Kids’ Choice Awards mix. “Best Sport About Being Slimed,” he says. “It’s pretty insane when it actually happens.”

As for his favorites in some of the Kids’ Choice Awards preexisting categories, Jonas says SpongeBob SquarePants would be his pick for Favorite Cartoon—”Gotta go with the classic!”— but his choice for Favorite Reality Show may be slightly more surprising.

“There was a show, it’s not on TV anymore, but it was called Game of Crowns,” Jonas explains, “and it was basically all these older woman that were competing in a beauty pageant.”

To better channel kids’ minds, we asked the experts to come up with questions of their own:

What does the line from “Jealous” mean when you say, “I turn me shemusica/And I’m puffing my chest”? Charlie, 5

The line is “I turn my chin music up.” It’s a baseball reference. I’m a big baseball fan. You’re telling a batter to back up. So in reference to the song, you’re telling the guy to back up.

Did you share a room with your brothers growing up? Jake, 9

We all three shared, all four even. We got very comfortable. It’s nice to have that growing up. There are times I miss it, but I’m really excited to be on my own.

What time do you go to bed? Sam, 8

With work I can go to bed pretty late, but I’ve been trying to get my rest, so maybe around 9:45 p.m./10 p.m.

How old were you when you wrote your first song, and what was it? Elyse, 15

I think I was around 11 or 12. It was a Christmas song that I recorded for a benefit. I definitely listen to some of the old songs. It’s like walking down memory lane.

Is that your grandma in the “Jealous” video? Ava, 6

It’s not my grandma. Although she does look like she can be. She’s a very sweet lady that we cast as part of the video.

What was your least favorite subject in school?  Tom, 6

Math. I tried to avoid math at all costs. I liked spelling, if that’s a subject. I felt like I was actually pretty good at it.

What food do you hate? Kaitlyn, 11

Goat cheese.
