The X Factor recap: Stop Disrespecting Your Mom!

A contestant refuses to accept bottom-two status; Rihanna performs

X Factor Astro Stacy

UNCROSS THOSE ARMS Astro and Stacy await doom. (Fox)

The X Factor

Season 1, Ep. 16 | Aired Nov 17

After a Thursday night results show featuring performances by Rihanna, a rousing “We Will Rock You” group number, and a Sony camera commercial disguised as a segment on a television program, the third “act” to be eliminated from the X Factor laser field is….

Stacy Francis.

Stacy was wearing her stinkface again throughout the hour, but eventually owned up to her terrible performance on Wednesday night and respectfully thanked the judges – particularly Simon Cowell – for giving her 42-year-old ass the right to sing in front of millions. “I wasn’t always happy with my song choices. I don’t believe I did great last night,” she told the audience after shushing them because it was a serious moment.

But the real story of last night’s results show was 15-year-old rapper Astro’s near-refusal to go through the motions of singing for his life or standing like a grownup after Stevecrest announced that he’d be joining Stacy in the bottom two. The backing track kicked in for “Never Can Say Goodbye,” and he was just listlessly wandering onstage, asking L.A. Reid, “My mentor, do you think I should perform?” UM, YES. YOU’RE A REALITY SHOW CONTESTANT. Get over yourself.

Ugh, what a brat! He’d changed up the lyrics to include shoutouts to the judges within “Goodbye” and developed some decent energy in the middle, but by the end of the song Astro just carelessly shuffled around and then made a sound into the mic that was a strange cross between a whimper and a grunt. Not even an “I’m very happy you performed, sir!” from Steve Jones could wipe the sullen brattitude from Astro’s face, and it took Simon Cowell’s suggestion that Astro was disrespecting his mother to get him to finally uncross his arms.

“No, not really. No disrespect to the show, but if you’re gonna put me in the bottom two, I don’t wanna perform for people who don’t want me here,” said The X Factor’s prodigal son. Chilling!
