Beyoncé remembers Aaliyah with throwback VMAs video

Aaliyah died 15 years ago, on Aug. 25, 2001, and one of the stars to remember her life on Thursday is Beyoncé.

The Lemonade singer posted a video of herself with Aaliyah at the 2000 MTV VMAs to her Instagram account. In the clip, the singers hang out and discuss how excited they are to see D’Angelo perform at the show. “He’s fine, he’s hot, he’s sexy,” Aaliyah said. The full interview is available on YouTube.

Janet Jackson shares note to Aaliyah on 14th anniversary of her death

Beloved singer Aaliyah died 14 years ago, and many stars, former collaborators, and fans paid tribute to her legacy on Tuesday, the anniversary of her death. Janet Jackson was one of the mourners, and posted a note to the late singer, who died in a plane crash in 2001.

“What I shared with u is ever sacred, everlasting [and] it’s pure and it will endure. I love u Aaliyah. #RIP,” Jackson wrote. She added on Twitter: “I know u r there shining down on me.”

Alexandra Shipp will replace Zendaya in Lifetime's Aaliyah biopic

Lifetime has found its replacement for Zendaya Coleman.

Alexandra Shipp will play late R&B singer Aaliyah in Lifetime’s upcoming biopic Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (working title), EW has confirmed. The planned film is set to premiere this fall and will be executive produced by Debra Martin Chase and talk show host Wendy Williams.

Zendaya Coleman exits Lifetime's Aaliyah biopic

Lifetime has confirmed that Zendaya Coleman, the 17-year-old best known as the star of Disney Channel’s Shake It Up! and as a breakout on Dancing With the Stars, will no longer be starring in the cable channel’s upcoming Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (working title).
