Thomas Lilti’s Cesar-winning French drama about an underfunded Paris hospital is a sobering look at the bureaucratic trials and life-and-death decisions rookie doctors face on their daily rounds. Inexperienced and running on little sleep, first-year intern Benjamin (Vincent Lacoste) makes for a spoiled but sympathetic character. But it’s his fellow intern Abdel (Reda Kateb) who gives the film compassion and humanity as an Algerian doctor battling casual racism as he fights to care for his patients. A–
