Michelle Williams in talks to play Janis Joplin in Sean Durkin-directed biopic

Following her Oscar-nominated turn as Marilyn Monroe in Simon Curtis’ My Week with Marilyn, Michelle Williams could soon be headed back to the big screen to play another iconic entertainment figure.

EW has learned the 36-year-old actress is in talks to star as Janis Joplin in the upcoming biopic Janis, set to be directed by Martha Marcy May Marelene helmer Sean Durkin. The film will revolve around the last six months of the rocker’s life, shortly before her death in 1970 at age 27.

Janis Joplin fans are about to get a much closer look at the legendary musician.

The poster and teaser trailer for Janis: Little Girl Blue, the upcoming doc about Joplin from director Amy Berg and producer Alex Gibney, were released Thursday. In a press release, FilmRise described the film as “an intimate and insightful portrait of a complicated, driven, often beleaguered artist.”

Janis Joplin's psychedelic Porsche going up for auction

Janis Joplin didn’t just wear her heart on her sleeve, she decorated her own car with her psychedelic vision. Although Joplin famously sang about wanting a “Mercedes Benz,” her vehicle of choice was a Porsche.
