There is no noir on the endlessly uplifting second record Jim Noir from Mancunian pop whiz Alan Roberts. Instead, 1960s-style, trippy-hippy songs continue to rule his releases, the latest a vivacious whirl of harmony and orchestration (”Happy Day Today” could be the ”Good Vibrations” of 2008). Thanks to instantly addictive compositions, Noir’s aural power is no longer a secret: Companies such as Target have used his tunes (notably ”My Patch”) to seduce customers in commercials.
