Judge Judy, Big Bang trio, Gilmore Girls earn biggest TV salaries

The verdict has been handed down: Judge Judy Sheindlin is the highest-paid personality on television.

Sheindlin, who’s starred in Judge Judy for 21 seasons, earns an estimated $47 million per year, according to a Variety. In the reality/host/news category, that’s nearly twice as much as Today show host Matt Lauer (est. $22 million to $25 million).

The Big Bang Theory may be America’s No. 1 comedy now, but CBS’ geeky sitcom about a quartet of comic book-obsessed scientists and their out-of-their-league neighbor once struggled to get off the ground.

The series, created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, debuted in 2007 to roughly 9.5 million viewers — certainly not ratings to balk at now, but the writers’ strike would prove to be an obstacle just a month after the show bowed. “We did seven or eight episodes and then the writers’ strike hit,” star Johnny Galecki tells EW. “We had a lot of things that were stacked against us. I know everyone feels like their show is the little show that could, but I feel like we really overcame a lot.”

Comic-Con 2015: Are The Big Bang Theory's Amy and Sheldon doomed?

With still more than two months to go before The Big Bang Theory returns, the writers of the CBS comedy played coy at Comic-Con on Friday on whether Sheldon and Amy’s relationship will survive the events of the finale.

Frustrated with the glacial pace at which their relationship is moving, Amy (Mayim Bialik) decided to take some space from Sheldon (Jim Parsons), unaware that he has procured an engagement ring. The big question is when he bought the ring. “The answer will be in the premiere episode of season 9,” executive producer Steve Molaro promised.
