George Takei's musical Allegiance to screen in theaters

Theater fans are getting the chance to see George Takei’s Broadway musical Allegiance in movie theaters for one night only come December.

The musical — starring Takei, Lea Salonga, and Telly Leung — follows a Japanese-American family as their lives change following the events of Pearl Harbor. 

George Takei’s Allegiance: The Broadway Musical On The Big Screen will feature an introduction by Takei as well as behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.

Allegiance: EW stage review

Allegiance, which opens Sunday at the Longacre Theatre, illuminates a dark spot in American history that school curricula (mine, at least) tend to gloss over, bringing to life the tragedy of the World War II internment camps for Japanese-American citizens. Watching the events play out on stage is painful: young, California-born Japanese-Americans racing to enlist after Pearl Harbor, only to be turned away; a neighbor of 20 years entreating Tatsuo Kimura (Christòpheren Nomura) to sell his farm, worth $20,000, for $2,000; the helplessness of men to protect their families.

Darren Criss sings 'A Whole New World' with the voice of a gay bar! -- VIDEO

Darren Criss surprised fans recently with an impromptu performance at the NYC gay piano bar Marie’s Crisis. The Glee star played the piano while singing “A Whole New World” from Aladdin with Tony-winner Lea Salonga, who provided the singing voice of Jasmine in the original 1992 Disney film.
